Big Sean started rapping at 12 years old at the progressive Waldorf School in Detroit. In high school he then proceeded to form a duo and won “Friday Night Cipher” MC Contest. This earned them a spot every Friday night to rap live for a year. It was because of that radio time that Big Sean met Kanye West in 2005. Kanye allowed him to freestyle for him and that lead him to signing with GOOD Music in 2007 and later with Def Jam in 2008. Big Sean’s career increased due to the release of his debut album “Finally Famous” in 2012. He was recognized in 2012 as GQ’s magazines “Hottest Rookie” and he picked up honors at the 2012 BET Awards for “Best New Artist”. Kanye West is Big Sean’s mentor and Big Sean also received double Grammy nominations with his collaboration on “Mercy”. Since 2007, Big Sean has continued to release mixtapes and was certified “Diamond” by host DatPiff for his album “Detroit” released in 2012. In 2017, Big Sean released his album I Decided, which peaked at #1 on the Billboard charts.
