Drai’s resident Meek Mill made over 3,000 kids in his hometown something more to smile about for the holidays as he held a surprise toy giveaway on Christmas Eve. The Philadelphia rapper selected the students from schools in the area that he says are near and dear to his heart. For him, it was a small way of saying Merry Christmas to the community. “Just giving back to my neighborhood; this is where I grew up. We are able to do it, so we are doing it.” Teaming up with PUMA and GoPuff, the gifts ranged from sneakers, bicycles, to toys and video games that Meek and his family handed out at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center. Meek shared a heartfelt recap video of the event on his Instagram:
“My son can get toys for Christmas. But everybody can’t afford to be in a situation where they can have a good Christmas, so we wanted to bring Christmas back to our old neighborhood,” he said during a Q&A, where his son Papi joked that one thing he would want for Christmas is for his father to get married. Hundreds of families showed up to the toy giveaway, making it a Christmas to remember thanks to Meek Mill’s selflessness and his spirit of giving back to the community.
