Rae Sremmurd Drops 3 New Tracks From ‘SR3MM’
by DRAI’S / March 1, 2018
2018 is looking to be a big year for Drai’s resident rap duo Rae Sremmurd, as they have just dropped three fresh tracks to hold fans over. For those that don’t know yet, SR3MM is going to be a triple-disc album from the brothers: one side will be Rae Sremmurd, the other will be Swae Lee, and the last side will be Slim Jxmmi. This is a perfect opportunity for them to experiment their solo efforts on their highly-anticipated project, as well as giving listeners their trademark sounds from the team-up side. Hours before dropping the songs, the duo confirmed the title of each track: Swae Lee’s song will be “Hurt to Look,” Slim Jxmmi’s will be “Brxnks Truck,” and the Rae Sremmurd track is “Powerglide.” The latter takes inspiration from Three 6 Mafia’s “Side 2 Side,” so it’s fitting that Juicy J got the feature. These tracks come just weeks after they dropped the catchy “T’d Up” single. Listen to the songs below:
Their solo tracks takes listeners to unfamiliar territory, of course in a good way — “Hurt to Look” puts Swae on a new level, with its synthy and lightly house-inflected rhythm that makes nice use of Swae’s airy falsetto, giving it a soothing R&B sound. Slim Jxmmi, meanwhile, gives a hammering flex with distorto-bass production that’s reminiscent of mid-’00s blog-house for “Brxnks Truck.” There’s no set release date for SR3MM yet, but be on the lookout for another announcement soon. In the meantime keep it locked here for Rae Sremmurd’s grand return to the Drai’s Nightclub stage in the near future!
