Future to Curate and Produce Soundtrack of Upcoming ‘Superfly’ Remake

Big news today for Freebandz founder and Drai’s resident rapper Future, as it was just announced that he will be curating and producing the soundtrack of the upcoming 1972 Blaxploitation remake of Superfly. It’s not his first foray in film work as he recently released a 10-minute cinematic music video for “Feds Did a Sweep” from his self-titled album, where Future is seen narrating the story, rapping the song in interrogation rooms and courthouses in the crime drama. The Superfly remake will be directed by Director X, known for his work with notable artists such as Drake, Justin Bieber, Usher and more. X posted a picture of Future and himself shortly after the announcement:

The original Superfly is best known for its iconic soundtrack, curated by the legendary Curtis Mayfield; Future has some big shoes to fill but will no doubt bring his creative vision to the table. The film will be starring Trevor Jackson as Youngblood Priest and Jason Mitchell as Eddie. “When I went back and watched the original, I was struck by how relevant the themes are,” Director X told Deadline. “The pursuit of the American Dream is eternal — everyone’s always on the hustle, because you’ve got to be… and Superfly is about pulling off the ultimate hustle to get out of the game. Our goal is to make it modern — to make a movie where the style, the art direction, the camera movements are all part of what makes the movie Superfly. With this film, my goal is to honor the lineage of an iconic title that the community has loved for decades.”

We look forward to the release of the film and what Hendrix will bring with this exciting announcement! Also be on the lookout to see Future back on the Drai’s LIVE stage soon!
