Drai’s resident Meek Mill is partnering with Amazon for a docu-series which will take a deep look at the trials and tribulations that the rapper has gone through in his storied career. Meek first unveiled the teaser to #FreeMeek on his sold-out show at the Met in Philadelphia, which was during his hometown’s ‘Meek Mill Weekend.’Free Meek is an upcoming documentary series that will follow Meek and his fight for exoneration while exposing flaws in the criminal justice system,” Amazon wrote. “The series will give viewers unprecedented access to the star’s life, career, and criminal justice odyssey, while demonstrating the negative effects long tail probation is having on urban communities of color.” The six-part docu-series – executive produced by Jay-Z, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, and Paul and Isaac Solotaroff – will premiere later this year. Watch the teaser below.

From his breakthrough rap career in 2011, facing legal issues, to his comeback in 2018, the city of Philadelphia has declared today (March 14) ‘Meek Mill Day’ followed by ‘Meek Mill Weekend’ (March 15-17). His hometown honored Meek at City Hall where he was celebrated for his contributions to hip-hop, his city, and for bringing national attention to criminal justice reform. The Drai’s resident, who was in company of city officials – including City Council president Darrell L. Clarke and his son – thanked his family and friends for the support. “As you see, I got a 7-year-old son. My son is 7-years-old. He may make mistakes in life. I don’t want my son growing up in a world where if he decided to use marijuana one time, he could spend two or three years in a state penitentiary raised by people he don’t know,” Meek said.

“I don’t believe young kids where we come from, minorities like myself, should have a shot like that. I think we deserve better and I’m trying to fight for the young kids that I actually spent time and sat in prison with multiple times for not even committing crime. I want to thank the people here for the support because the support done mattered a lot. I’ve been in prison a few times for probation violation, but the one time that my city of Philadelphia showed me support was the one time I came out of prison, and I want to show the support back and do it for the people that actually stood up for me.” You can watch his acceptance speech in the source link below.

Renowned American business publication Forbes got a chance to speak with nightlife impresario Victor Drai and son Dustin Drai — director of marketing here at Drai’s Beachclub Nightclub — for an extensive feature where they discuss everything from Victor’s inspirational success story, producing big-budget films, Dustin’s early involvement in the nightlife industry, their undeniable father-son chemistry, and more. “The reason I knew a lot about this business is that I grew up in Paris and you would go to a club and buy a bottle, and they would put your name on the bottle for when you came back. They never had bottle service in America, so when I started my first club, I started to introduce it for the first time,” said Victor Drai on the topic of innovating the nightlife scene and incorporating what he’s learned throughout his storied career.

“I didn’t want to have everyone think I was just the owner’s son … I wanted to have personal experience in every side of the business. I want people to respect what I have to say, and that’s kind of what my Dad has always instilled in me growing up,” as Dustin recalls his father imparting words of wisdom and wanting him to learn every aspect of the nightlife industry, from starting at Drai’s as a busboy to everything else in between, learning the ins and outs of the family organization. “My Dad would ask me what I think about their design choices in front of 20 executives, and he would talk to me like I was one of them. As long as I can remember I have always been involved. My life as a kid was the nightlife business, and as I got older it was a natural fit, and my Dad never pressured me into it.” For more on the Drai’s legacy and what’s in store for the future, read the article in full on the source link below.

Our very own Drai’s resident DJ Maria Romano took some time to discuss her DJing career, the big move to Vegas, how Drai’s changed the game, and more in an exclusive sit-down with local city magazine Las Vegas Weekly. “Drai’s started the whole trend in Las Vegas with bringing the hip-hop artist back onto the Strip and paying them good money to perform,” she says when talking about her being an open format DJ in Las Vegas, and the impact hip-hop has made. “It’s good for me, because hip-hop is my base, and it’s probably the No. 1-played genre right now.” She also touches on the differences of the nightlife industry here compared to her native Pennsylvania: “The level here is so much bigger than it is back home. Everybody is on vacation and ready to have a good time.” You can catch DJ Maria Romano playing the hottest in today’s music during Imagine Tuesdays at Drai’s After Hours, as well as at the best night clubs in Vegas on a weekly basis.
